    Siknäs Fortress

The Fortress from the Cold War Era

Embark on an adventure at Siknäs Fortress, a clandestine fort from the Cold War era. It's perched 60 meters above sea level, offering a panoramic view of the Töre fjord.

Siknäs Fortress, a nuclear-protected facility, is situated just a few kilometers from the northernmost point of the Baltic Sea. Upon your arrival at Siknäs Fortress, you'll be greeted by guides who will escort you through a tunnel specifically designed to resist shock waves from the entrance. You'll explore four levels that have been carved into the mountain. Here, you'll encounter the museum's exhibits which, in conjunction with the preserved installations, offer a comprehensive understanding of Siknäs Fortress - the northernmost defense during the Cold War, in a visually engaging and intriguing manner.

Summer of 1987 An incident was reported where a combat diver emerged from the tranquil waters. Out of several hundred observations, 15 were deemed reliable, leading to the conclusion that a submarine had infiltrated the bay, as stated by an intelligence officer from the Kalix defense area. Helicopters were deployed to drop explosive substances and anti-submarine grenades to force the intruder to surface.

What was the outcome? Was a submarine discovered? The mini-submarine Spiggen II now resides in Törehamn, serving as a reminder of the dramatic events that unfolded in 1987.

Törehamn Pay a visit to Törehamn, a location that has played a significant role in the region's military history. You can view the Swedish mini-submarine Spiggen II and a shooting tower, cleverly camouflaged as a summer cottage from the fall of 2018.

You can also obtain a certificate as evidence of your visit to the northernmost point of the Baltic Sea.
